From muskrat_johnToday, Wizards of the Coast confirms that the new edition will launch in May 2008 with the release of the D&D Player's Handbook. The 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons game includes elements familiar to current D&D players, including illustrated rulebooks and pre-painted plastic miniatures. Also releasing next year will be new web-based tools and online community forums through the brand-new Dungeons & Dragons Insider (D&D Insider) digital offering. D&D Insider lowers the barriers of entry for new players while simultaneously offering the depth of play that appeal to veteran players. The 4th Edition rules emphasize faster game play, offer exciting new character options, and reduce the amount of "prep time" needed to run the game. D&D Insider includes a character creator that lets players design and equip their D&D characters, dungeon- and adventure-building tools for Dungeon Masters, online magazine content, and a digital game table that lets you play 24/7 on the internet — the perfect option for anyone who can't find time to get together. "We've been gathering player feedback for eight years," said Bill Slavicsek, R&D Director of Roleplaying and Miniatures Games at Wizards of the Coast. "Fourth Edition streamlines parts of the D&D game that are too complex, while enhancing the overall play experience. At its heart, it's still a tabletop game experience. However, D&D Insider makes it easier for players to create characters, run their games, and interact with the rest of the D&D community." Wizards of the Coast will release two 4th Edition preview books in December and January - Wizards Presents: Classes and Races and Wizards Presents: Worlds and Monsters. The full scope of 4th Edition books, miniatures, and adventures will be available in the spring and summer of 2008.
Sigh. Just got back from GEN CON in Indianapolis. GEN CON is unique among the cons I go to, because there is no on-site drinking (that I have ever seen), there are really Hot Chicks playing Role-Playing Games. And my weight is actually middle of the road rather than over the edge. The, excuse me, THE news of this convention was the announcement of 4th edition D&D to come in May 2008. For those of you who don’t know what D&D is, apparently you found this blog by random chance after crawling out from under your rock. Here is a place to go for more information about D&D in general and 4th ed. in particular. It is my considered opinion that WOTC (current "makers" of D&D have completely lost touch with either a)reality or b)their fanbase. The first clue was the giveaways at the "big announcement." They gave away t-shirts with fancy art & letters & shit all over them. Cool design, but, uh, what was the biggest size they were giving away? 2XL. Now, that’s pretty big, I grant you, but this shirt cannot possibly contain my magnificience. Looking around, I noticed that well over half the adult men at the big announcement were staring in puzzlement at their free tshirt and we all had the same thought, "Maybe I can make a pillowcase out of this thing... Here’s the kicker, though. They want to take my game, that I have faithfully played for 25+ years (Lord, I’m Old), my game that I have seen through 3 and a half editions (technically 4 and a half to 5, but you get the point), MY GAME, and put the majority of its content online, viewable (and to a certain extent playable) only through a subscription service. Fuck you Wizards. Fuck you right in the Ear. Fuck you Hasbro, for fucking up my game. Fuck you fuck you fuck you. This game is pen & paper. This game is imagination. This game is for everyone, not just those that can afford internet access and Laptops and a new fucking set of books every five fucking years. This was the game my HighSchool buddies and I could lose a weekend playing, coming up for air only to get mom to make us some food. This was a game we could sit around and drink beer for 3-5 days in college, occasionally ordering pizza and engaging in LYB gun fights to ease the tension. This was a game that could reunite friends face to face, across the table, rolling dice and fucking interacting socially with real people. Sure, we were made up mostly of nerds who didn’t have a whole lot of friends, but we had each other and sometimes we actually went out in the world and did things. Not necessary any more! Just stay in front of your laptop and gobble up all the Shit Content ™ WOTC can shovel into your porous mind, little kids. Don’t think for yourself! Don’t make friends with real people! Just pay! pay! pay! Fuck. You. Bitches. /rant (for now)
Wow. LG has tricked itself out in the 6+ months since I last posted. Yes, I have become addicted to the dreaded MySpace, and have not looked beck except now when I am trying to find to tell her about my soon to be awesome Priest on WoW. Her name is Mitzix (with a silent x, of course) and anyone on the steamwheedle cartel server should feel free to twink her out as much as possible.
The two major things in my inter web life are now MySpace and WoW. So I suppose that I'm not the rugged individualist I once was. On the other hand, I've been diagnosed with ADD. So I've got that going for me. It was a major surprise to me, the ADD. At first I was skeptical, but after taking these tests and seeing the results, I can honestly say i am willing to give the treadment a shot. The shrink thinks that the ADD is the source of my depression. What do I know?

Just pretty much as I thought it would go. I got into a rabid argument with a co-worker about PnP RPGs. My understanding of his argument was that if you couldn't simulate everything with a specific rule, then a game was flawed; ergo D&D was inherently flawed. I call Bullshit. I would like to know what other gamers of my aquaintance think, so let's start a discussion. His example of the inherent flaws of D&D was: if I want to play a half orc paladin with the inherent social stigma and racial prejudice, that because there are no specific rules to cover it, that is a flaw in the game. I responded that the rules don't need to cover something like that, that in the Role playing aspect of the game: the "fluff" rather than the "Crunch." He also said that D&D was only good for "high-fantasy" games. Oh sweet Jesus. So this quiz brought it all back. I invite opinions.

If I see one more (expletive deleted) eight to ten year old girl with hair hanging down over the face in a horror movie... I just might Plotz. Honestly... PLOTZ!!! This movie did not suck, nor was it very good. Save your money and go watch VH1 until they show an old Marilyn Manson or Nine Inch Nails video. It'll be over much quicker and you'll get the same false sense of being cool.
Almost Horror-movie-esque, I think...

I amNyarlathotep!
The 999 forms of Nyarlathotep are a point of meditation for the true initiate. It is through these manifold faces that the secrets of the universe are made known. Called "The Crawling Chaos", Nyarlathotep is the disembodied ego of Azathoth and thus the universal "I" of known reality. Some of the many documented forms are; Father of Knives, Nephren-Ka, the Black Man, the Beast of the Lashing Tongue to name a few.

| Which Great Old One are you? |
I though this was a good example of my "eclectic" tastes: "As Good as I Once Was" Toby Keith "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky" Johnny Cash "If I had $1,000,000" Barenaked Ladies "The One Thing" INXS "Crazy Train" Ozzy Osbourne "Take Five" Dave Brubeck "Rockit" Herbie Hancock "Roxanne, Roxanne" UTFO "The Passenger" Siouxsie and the Banshees "Tear Stained Eye" Son Volt Yeah, I dunno why I like that Toby Keith song, either. But I do.
